A beacon of hope for vulnerable young people in Spalding and beyond…

Carly runs London Marathon to raise funds for The Lighthouse Project Spalding!

12th May 2025

On Sunday 27th April, our incredible past resident Carly completed TCS London Marathon in support of The Lighthouse Project Spalding.

Carly came to Karis House back in 2012 struggling with her mental health and recovering from a severe injury. Here’s how she describes her time at Karis House:

“My mental health was in a really bad place. I’d already tried everything I could through the NHS but I’d reached a point where nothing seemed to be working.

“My time at Karis House helped me work on everything I was dealing with mentally so I could then put my energy and focus into the physical side of things. It helped me build the mental resilience I needed to stick with physical therapy and push through. From the start, I felt accepted for who I was. The staff really saw the potential in me and never stopped encouraging me to reach for it.

“It transformed my life and made me the person I am today – a paramedic, a business owner and a Marathon finisher. That’s why I ran – to support The Lighthouse Project Spalding and the work they do helping people like me to change their lives.”

Carly put in a fantastic effort across the 26.2 miles and crossed the finish line in 6 hours 8 minutes

Perhaps even more impressive, Carly’s Marathon inspired a huge amount of generosity and she absolutely smashed her fundraising goal. In total, Carly raised over £4500 to help more young people access the care they need to transform their lives with The Lighthouse Project Spalding, just as she did in her time at Karis House.

From all of us at The Lighthouse Project Spalding and on behalf of everyone whose lives will be changed because of this, we’d like to say a HUGE thank you to Carly and everyone who sponsored her to make this happen.
